Storage Locator
Moving into your new home can be incredibly overwhelming and stressful, with a million and one things to coordinate and organise. To prevent you forgetting anything in the process and help you glide through moving we have created a comprehensive moving house checklist.
1. Before Moving Day:
- Create a moving folder.
- Research and hire a reliable moving company or moving van.
- Notify current and future utility providers (water, gas, electricity, internet, council tax etc.).
- Transfer or set up new services at your new address. (subscriptions etc.).
- Collect packing supplies, if your moving company does not supply them (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, etc.).
- Declutter and donate or sell items you don’t need.
2. Packing:
- Start packing early, room by room.
- Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to.
- Pack a moving day essentials box with toiletries, clothes, and important documents. (Don’t forget the Kettle and Tea Bags!)
3. Furniture and Appliances:
- Obtain measurements of doorways and hallways to ensure furniture fits.
- Disassemble furniture if necessary.
- Take pictures of electronic setups to remember how to reconnect them.
4. Moving Day:
- Keep important documents and valuables with you, not in the moving van.
- Conduct a final walkthrough of your home to check for anything left behind.
- If renting take photos of your new home before you bring in your things.
5. Unpacking:
- Prioritize unpacking by room.
- Assemble furniture and arrange rooms according to your floor plan.
- Dispose of or return packing materials responsibly. See our tips on 5 things to do with your boxes after you’ve unpacked in your new home.
6. Settling In:
- Familiarise yourself with your new area.
- Update your address with banks, insurance, and other important institutions.
- Register with a new GP and Dentist.
7. Be prepared for emergencies:
- Locate the nearest hospital in your new area.
- Update emergency contact information.
Remember, flexibility is key. Unexpected things might pop up, so stay organised and adapt as needed. Happy moving!
